| The Town of Haverstraw is a town of the First Class. Town/County taxes are collected beginning January 1 through January 31 without penalty. February 1 through February 28 taxes are collected with a 1% penalty. March 1 through March 31 taxes are collected with a 2% penalty. April 1 - All unpaid taxes are turned over to Rockland County Finance for collection. School taxes are collected beginning September 1 through September 30 without penalty. October 1 through October 31 with a 5% fee. November 1 - They are turned over to the School Districts for Rockland County Finance to collect or re-levy onto the next Town/County tax bill. Hours of collection: 9AM - 5PM (Monday-Friday) When the final date for collection of taxes falls on a Saturday, Sunday or Public Holiday, taxes will be collected throughout the first business day following such a date. The Town of Haverstraw does not accept credit cards for payment of taxes. The Town also does not accept partial payments for taxes - all tax bills must be paid in full. A suggested Tax Calendar of Events would be: January 1 through January 31 - Collect Town/County taxes without penalty. February 1 through February 28(or 29) - Collect Town/County taxes with 1% penalty. March 1 through 31 - Collect Town/County taxes with 2% penalty. April 1 - Prepare to turn over Roll, Unpaids and all requirements to Rockland County Finance for settlement. July - Remove old Bank Codes; add new Bank Codes; make sure all entries & changes are up-to-date for School Roll. August - Receive Tax Warrants from North Rockland, East Ramapo and Ramapo Central School Districts; put legal notices in newspapers regarding tax warrants and tax collecting data; prepare tax bills for mailing; mail bills. September 1 through 30 - Collect School taxes. October 1 through 31 - Collect School taxes with 5% interest. November 1 - Prepare all books to be turned over to School Districts. December - Receive Tax Warrants from Town and County; remove old Bank Codes; add new Bank Codes; make all necessary changes; put legal notices in newspapers regarding tax collecting in January; prepare tax bills; mail tax bills. The Town of Haverstraw does have a THIRD PARTY NOTIFICATION SERVICE FOR REAL PROPERTY TAXES for persons who are owner occupants of a 1, 2, or 3 family residence who are at least 65 years of age or are disabled (by a physical or mental impairment, which substantially limits one or more of their major life activities).
